The Uttarakhand police on Thursday stopped state Congress Committee President Karan Mahra when he was marching toward the Raj Bhawan to protest against the BJP government for “throttling” democracy.
Later, Mahra along with other Congress leaders was taken into preventive custody in Dehradun.
While talking to reporters at the Congress headquarters, Mahra alleged that the BJP is hatching a conspiracy in the Panchayat elections. Also, the State Election Commissioner is constantly violating the instructions of the High Court, he claimed adding the Congress Party is constantly demanding the dismissal of the Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar from the Governor. No action has been taken till date, Mahra lamented. Questions are being raised repeatedly on the functioning of the Election Commissioner, he alleged.
He said that time was sought to meet the Governor thrice, but no answer was received. This is a gross neglect of the main opposition party, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He alleged at a time when the Chief Minister and Ministers are showering petals on the Kanwar yatra, some Kanwariyas are vandalizing vehicles and misbehaving with women. The policemen who are taking action against these anti-social elements are also being stopped. Congress stands firmly with such honest policemen.
The Congress sate President said that the anarchic elements active in the Kanwar Yatra are damaging the image of Sanatan Dharma, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He also questioned BKTC President Hemant Dwivedi’s visit to Kedarnath by helicopter and said that he himself is flouting the rules. Despite five incidents related to helicopters in Kedarnath, the BKTC President and other controversial people are traveling by helicopter, which is a very serious matter.
He asked on what basis was permission given to Hemant Dwivedi? UCADA should clarify the situation in this regard. Also, the BKTC president should also come in front of the public and give clarification.
