CBI to move HC against Kejriwal, Sisodia in excise case

CBI has decided to move the High Court against a Delhi court’s decision on Friday discharging senior AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in the excise scam refusing to take cognizance of the chargesheet.

Special Judge Jitendra Singh said that the chargesheet had several lacunae not supported by evidence, as he discharged 21 more besides the two AAP leaders in the case mainly based on corruption charges.

The court observed that the alleged “central conspiratorial role” could not be substantiated.

The CBI has been probing alleged corruption in the formulation and execution of the erstwhile-AAP government’s now-scrapped excise policy.

An emotional Arvind Kejriwal later broke down when he was talking to the media. He claimed that the “corruption case against him was the biggest political conspiracy in the history of Independent India”. He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to frame him in the case.

Meanwhile, the CBI has decided to move the High Court against the lower court’s decision granting acquittal to AAP leaders in the excise scam that sent them to jail.
