Veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, 98, was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital here on Friday evening following a chest infection. He is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU), and his condition is stable, according to the hospital.

Advani was brought to the hospital in Jasola Vihar around 7.30 pm on October 16. He is receiving treatment under the supervision of a team of doctors, with senior neurology consultant Dr Vinit Suri among those overseeing his care. He remains under close medical observation, the hospital said.

BJP president J P Nadda visited the hospital to enquire about Advani’s health and spoke to the doctors treating him.

This is the latest in a series of hospital admissions for the veteran leader, who was also admitted to Apollo Hospital in May this year for age-related health issues.

Born in Karachi in 1927, Advani was among the principal architects of the BJP’s rise as a major political force. He served as the party’s president on multiple occasions and played a central role in its expansion across the country.
