Ace shuttler Lakshya Sen on Sunday won his first title of the season, defeating Japan’s Yushi Tanaka in the men’s singles final of the USD 475,000 Australian Open Super 500.

The 24-year-old from Almora, who had endured a tough phase after finishing fourth at the Paris Olympics, capped a resurgent week with a commanding performance, outplaying the 26-year-old Tanaka 21-15 21-11 in 38 minutes.

“Blocked the noise around, heard my inner voice. Grateful to my team for always pushing me and having my back. Many many more to go! Thank you Australia, this one’s special,” Sen said after the victory.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated Sen for his victory. “Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the son of the land of Gods, Uttarakhand, @lakshya_sen, on winning the Australian Open Super 500 title,” Dhami said on X. “Your remarkable victory inspires our youth that with dedication, discipline, and hard work, every goal can be achieved,” Dhami said.
