After Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Congress state President Karan Mahara also reached the disaster-hit Dharali in Uttarkashi district on Friday after trekking from Bhatwari.
In a video that has gone viral, Mahara with no signs of fatigue is seen climbing big rocks using ropes and covering an arduous 30-40 km long distance mainly on foot. He began his trek on Thursday from Bhatwari in Uttarkashi district.
“I have reached Harsil,” Mahara said as he trekked the badly damaged Gangotri Highway after the Aug 5 disaster following the Khirgard deluge.
“The roads are buried in debris, bridges have been washed away, there is no way left in many places but I am trying to reach Dharali as soon as possible. Because my people in Dharali are sad and alone,” said the Congress leader in his post on the social media when he was about to reach Harsil.
Mahara also met a large number of relatives of the victims of the Dharali disaster who are anxiously waiting for the nears and dears who went missing in the disaster.
“No one knows if their family is safe or not. Someone heard the last voice on the phone, some are not able to talk to their family members,” Mahara said. He also met some Nepalese labourers whose relatives are also missing in the disaster.
