Dehradun: A man from Delhi has been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife who was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a homestay near Mussoorie last month, police said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Somayajula Charan, a resident of Kidwai Nagar in Delhi, was arrested from Madhu Vihar in East Delhi after police secured a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him from the Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Mussoorie.
According to police, the incident took place on June 15 at Kiyana Homestay located near Bataghat outpost on the Mussoorie-Dhanaulti Road. The deceased, Parupudi Radha Gayatri, had checked into the homestay along with her husband. She was later found dead under suspicious circumstances.
Following the incident, the woman’s family lodged a complaint at Mussoorie police station, alleging foul play. Based on the complaint, police registered Case No. 19/2026 against the husband and initiated an investigation.
Police said that during the course of the investigation, evidence and other material collected pointed towards the involvement of the accused. Acting on the findings, investigators obtained a non-bailable warrant from the court and launched efforts to trace him.
The accused was subsequently apprehended from New Delhi and produced before the Judicial Magistrate in Mussoorie. The court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody, following which he was sent to Sudhowala District Jail.
Police said the investigation into the case is continuing and further legal proceedings will be carried out based on the evidence collected.
