Five people including four women were killed and 11 went missing early Friday following a series of cloudbursts in Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Chamoli and Tehri districts of Uttarakhand as incessant rains continued.
Official reports said the situation was grim in Basukedar area in Rudraprayag district where villages like Chhenagad, Taljaman, Syurn, Kimada and Arkhund were struck by cloudbursts triggering flash floods that carried big bounders and debris. Several houses were also damaged in flash floods. Chhenagaad was the worst affected area where eight people went missing. A woman identified as Sarita Devi was killed in Jakholi area in the district.
Relief and rescue operations are being conducted on a war footing by the district administration in the affected areas, an official statement said.
As per the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Rudraprayag District Magistrate Prateek Jain is constantly in touch with the affected areas. The District Magistrate has given necessary guidelines to conduct rescue operations effectively.
Two women were killed and three went missing in Pausari vlllage in Kapkot area of Bageshwar district early Friday following a cloudburst. The two women have been identified as Basanti Devi Joshi and Bachuli Devi. Joshi’s husband Ramesh Chandra Joshi was among the three who went missing. Joshi’s son Pawan was injured in the flash floods.
The district administration is taking all necessary steps to provide immediate assistance to the affected people and to take them to safe places. Teams of NDRF, SDRF, Police and Revenue Department are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations.
A couple was killed in Mopata village Deval area of Chamoli district following a cloudburst. The couple has been identified as Tara Singh and his wife Kamla Devi.
Chief Minister Dhami has expressed grief over the fresh cloudbursts in the two districts and said the government is providing all possible help to the affected people.
