A mazar that was built illegally on the land meant for a hospital has finally been demolished in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand on Wednesday, top officials said.
The Haridwar district administration officials with the help of JCB excavators brought down the shrine that had allegedly encroached upon the government land allotted for a hospital in the Piran Kaliyar area in Haridwar. The move was part of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s relentless drive to remove illegal structures in the state.
The mazar was razed in the presence of a large contingent of the district administrative and police officials. The mazar had been constructed by encroaching upon the government land allotted for the hospital, a government official confirmed. A notice had been issued prior to the demolition, the official said.
When the mazar was not removed even after the stipulated deadline, it was demolished with bulldozers, the official added.
The state government has launched a crackdown on encroachments in Uttarakhand. Top government officials said similar strict action will continue against unauthorized religious structures and illegal occupation in the state in future also.
In April this year, an illegally constructed mazar which was built within premises of the Doon Medical college and Hospital was also demolished in the dead of night.
