A teenager was arrested for allegedly gang-raping a minor girl in the Haridwar Bypass area of Dehradun city, police said on Saturday.
Two minor boys, who were also involved in the crime that occurred on Thursday night, have also been taken into police custody.
The arrest came after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint at the Patel Nagar Police Station on Friday. The victim’s mother in her complaint alleged that Rafi alias Sonu (19) and two other minor boys raped her daughter. She alleged that on the evening of March 12, the accused lured her daughter to a desolated place situated near a school on the Haridwar Bypass, where they allegedly gave her some drug and then repeatedly raped her.
In the complaint, the mother stated that after committing the rape, the accused put the victim in an auto-rickshaw and sent her home. When the girl reached her residence, she collapsed after feeling dizziness. When her mother questioned her, the victim recounted her ordeal, following which a report was lodged with the police.
Based on the written complaint, a case was immediately registered against the accused under Sections 137(2)/70(2)/123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 5/6 of the POCSO Act; subsequently, Rafi was arrested, and the other two minor boys were taken into police custody.
The police revealed that during interrogation, it came to light that the two minors were known to the victim and shared a friendly relationship with her. One of them had even previously lived as a tenant in the victim’s home.
