A preliminary survey of the Dehradun Mussoorie Railway Project has been completed, DRM Moradabad Sangrarh Maurya said on Monday in Dehradun.
A final location survey of the project will also start soon, the DRM said.
However, other details regarding the proposed Mussoorie-Dehradun rail project were not available. But experts said one such survey was done during the British period.
Interestingly during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had stated that the Dehradun-Mussoorie rail line project should be approved for expansion of rail network in Uttarakhand.
Besides Mussoorie-Dehradun survey, the final location survey of Dehradun-Saharanpur railway line has also been completed, the DRM said.
The DRM was speaking at a meeting with Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan in the secretariate on Monday.
During the meeting, Bardhan proposed doubling of Haridwar-Dehradun single line before the maha Kumbh 2033. “It is very important to make Haridwar-Dehradun a double lane before Maha Kumbh 2033,” Bardhan said during the meeting.
The CS also called for starting the process of wildlife clearance and forest clearance for the double lane rail project. He also asked the railways to prepare and provide the traffic management circulation plan for the Kumbh Mela soon. He also called for facelifting of Rishikesh and Haridwar railway stations.
The Chief Secretary directed the team of Rajaji National Park, railways and DFO to conduct a joint survey for Rishikesh-Doiwala railway bypass as soon as possible. He said that the process of wildlife clearance and forest clearance should also be started. He directed that the survey be completed by a joint team of railways, forest and revenue to expedite the expansion work of Harrawala railway station.
The Chief Secretary asked the Railways to nominate one officer for coordination in the next meetings related to Ardh Kumbh 2027.
The Chief Secretary said that instructions were also given to prepare a mobility plan for the entire state. He said that a plan for the next 50 years should be prepared regarding all types of transport means and options.
The DRM said that the DPR of Harrawala Railway Station has been approved though the project is yet to be approved.
Principal Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant, C Ravishankar, Resident Commissioner Ajay Mishra, Director General Information Banshidhar Tiwari along with other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
