Nearly 14 lakh voters have been deleted from Uttarakhand’s electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the Congress claimed on Saturday, even as the final voter list released by the Election Commission showed 71.58 lakh electors — 8.01 lakh fewer than when the revision began in June.
The Congress claim has put the spotlight on the huge gap in the state’s electorate before and after the SIR, with former party MLA Manoj Rawat and state Congress Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana saying the party’s calculation is based on an earlier voter base of 85 lakh recorded in January 2026. The final roll has 71.58 lakh voters, implying a difference of about 14 lakh, the two leaders claimed.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, however, 79,60,762 voters were on the electoral roll when the SIR began on June 8. The draft roll published on July 14 contained 71,33,785 voters, while the final roll released on Saturday has 71,58,949 voters.
Thus, the official June 8-to-final comparison shows 8.01 lakh fewer voters, while the Congress is using the earlier figure of 85.19 lakh to put the number of deleted voters at nearly 14 lakh.
Rawat alleged that the Election Commission’s figures showed 4.53 lakh names had already been deleted during pre-SIR verification, after which further names were removed during the SIR exercise. He said the Congress considers the fall from 85.19 lakh to 71.58 lakh to represent the deletion of around 14 lakh voters.
The final electoral roll contains 37,37,701 male voters, 34,21,036 female voters and 212 third-gender voters. It includes 72,656 voters in the 18-19 age group and 1,22,892 voters above 80.
After claims and objections were considered, 1,29,872 new voters were added and 1,04,708 names were deleted from the draft roll, according to the CEO office.
The Election Commission has now ordered a fresh exercise to identify voters whose names were present in the pre-SIR roll but are missing from the final list. Booth Level Officers will compare the two rolls, prepare a list of such voters and visit their homes to establish their current status. Eligible voters will be assisted in filing Form 6 for re-enrolment.
The CEO office has also said that people who were left out of the final roll can apply online through the ECI Net system or offline through their BLOs. Special camps will be organised for the purpose.
The sharp fall in the electorate and the contrasting calculations over the number of names deleted assume significance ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly election, making the post-SIR verification exercise closely watched by political parties and voters alike.
