Eighth seed Iga Swiatek on Saturday became the first Pole to capture the Wimbledon title crushing 13th seed Amanda Anisimova (US) 6-0, 6-0 in the most one-sided finals in recent memories. This was Swiatek’s sixth grand slam and maiden Wimbledon title. The match ended in just 57 minutes.

Twenty eight unforced errors by Anisimova helped Swiatek, who had never gone beyond quarterfinals of Wimbledon, to seal her victory.

Later, Swiatek said she was never expecting to win the title after receiving the Venus Rosewater Dish from Princess of Wales Kate Middleton.

Anisimova who repeated broke down after the final was outside the top 400 and didn’t even qualify for the main draw. Her run to the final which included a stunning semi-final win over Aryna Sabalenka marks a remarkable comeback after a mental health break in 2023.

Swiatek also became the first player since Monica Seles in 1992 to win all her first six major finals.
