Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated to the nation, the First unit (660 MW) of THDC India Ltd’s maiden Thermal Power Project, 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (STPP), located in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.
With this, THDC India Ltd has achieved yet another milestone significantly enhancing its diversified energy portfolio as it entered the thermal energy sector.
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister in his address said “this is a big step towards fulfilling the energy needs of Uttar Pradesh. After these power plants, the availability of electricity in Uttar Pradesh will increase further. This will also give impetus to the industries.”
The Foundation Stone of this Mega Plant was laid by the Prime Minister in 2019, which stands as a testament to THDCIL’s commitment to timely execution, engineering excellence, and Nation-Building.
Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant marks a major milestone as THDCIL expands its portfolio beyond Hydropower strengthening its position as a diversified energy company.
The equity of THDC India Limited is shared between NTPC Limited and Government of UP.
With the commissioning of this 660 MW unit, THDCIL’s total installed capacity, increases from 1587 MW to 2247 MW.
During the occasion, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak were present among other dignitaries.
After commissioning the 2400 MW Tehri hydel project, the THDCIL had announced its strategic entry into the Thermal Power sector a few years ago. This sector complements its existing renewable assets, providing a balanced and sustainable energy portfolio capable of delivering a consistent power supply while continuing to innovate in cleaner technologies.
