Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a review meeting to assess the damage caused by floods in Uttarakhand and announced an interim relief package of Rs 1200 crore.
However, Modi could not conduct an aerial survey of the disaster-affected areas due to bad weather conditions in the hill state.
“The Prime Minister announced financial assistance of ₹1200 crore for the areas affected by floods and rains in Uttarakhand,” an official statement said.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
The Prime Minister announced comprehensive assistance under the PM CARES for Children scheme for children orphaned due to the recent floods and landslides. The Prime Minister also stated that the assistance under the purview of the Disaster Management Act and Rules including advance disbursements to the States being announced at this stage are for the interim period. The Central government will further review the assessment based on the memorandum of the State as well as the report of the Central teams.
The Prime Minister met the affected families and expressed condolences. The Prime Minister also met NDRF, SDRF and Aapda Mitra volunteers and appreciated their efforts.
The Prime Minister also assured full support from the Central Government for restoration and reconstruction of infrastructure in the affected areas.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the gravity of the situation and assured that the Central Government will make all efforts to address the situation.
Governor Gurmit Singh, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other senior central and state government officials were present during the meeting.
A total of 79 people have died, 115 people injured and 90 people are missing in the year 2025 between 01 April 2025 to 31 August 2025 due to natural disaster, according to Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman.
After a series of disasters, the Uttarakhand government sought a package of Rs Rs 5702.15 crore to compensate the damage caused by the flash floods that wreaked havoc in the hill state during the monsoon season.
