President Droupadi Murmu on Monday asked MLAs to work for the welfare of people with complete dedication.
Sharing her experience, President Murmu said as a legislator, she had the opportunity to serve the people for nine years. Therefore, she can say from her experience that if legislators remain actively engaged in solving public problems and working for their welfare, the bond of trust between people and their representatives will remain unbreakable.
Addressing a special session of the state Legislative Assembly marking the silver jubilee of the state’s formation, she appealed to everyone to pursue development and public welfare with complete dedication. Such work transcends party politics. Everyone needs to work with special sensitivity for the welfare and development of the underprivileged sections of society.
Stating that Uttarakhand was formed on November 9, 2000, during the tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Prime Minister, in accordance with the aspirations of the people, with a vision for better governance and balanced development, President Murmu congratulated former and sitting members of the Assembly and all the citizens of the state on this occasion.
The President said in the past 25 years, the people of Uttarakhand have achieved impressive development milestones. The state has made commendable progress in the areas of environment, energy, tourism, healthcare, and education. Similarly, progress has been made in the areas of digital and physical connectivity and infrastructure development.
President Murmu said due to the comprehensive development efforts, the state has improved on the Human Development Index (HDI). Literacy has increased, women’s education has expanded, maternal and infant mortality rates have declined, and efforts are being made to make healthcare accessible in the state.
