Veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat on Tuesday suggested that the Delhi-Dehradun expressway should be named after Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution.
In a social media post, Rawat said “Today, the Honourable Prime Minister will inaugurate the Dehradun-Delhi Expressway. With this inauguration, traffic congestion in Dehradun is bound to increase, and bottlenecks will emerge. People’s lives will become even more stifling, and this is already impacting the economy of the hill regions. The movement of vehicles departing from Dehradun is being disrupted, leading to a rise in fares.
“However, we are willing to endure all of this—provided that this #Expressway is named after Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. Today also marks the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, and naming the highway after him would serve as a magnificent tribute to him from the people of Uttarakhand,” Rawat said.
