Uttarakhand Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya on Saturday dismissed corruption allegations levelled against her by her husband, Girdhari Lal Sahu, as baseless saying her life and financial records were an open book and she was ready for any investigation.
Speaking to the media at a hospital in Dehradun, where she was admitted on Friday after her health deteriorated, Arya said Sahu had made the allegations and it was for him to substantiate them.
“I am an open book. My income is an open book, and my income-tax returns say everything. I have to contest elections in the future, and I believe everything is transparent. There is nothing to hide. Even then, if anyone has doubts, any kind of investigation can be conducted to establish the truth,” she said.
Her remarks came a day after Sahu released a video accusing her of amassing illegal assets worth Rs 210 crore. He also urged Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to order an inquiry by an agency into the allegations. Sahu, however, did not produce documentary evidence to substantiate his claims, though he said he would elaborate on them.
Arya had lodged an FIR against Sahu on October 15, accusing him of criminal conspiracy to kill her, assault, caste-based abuse, cheating and forgery, among other offences.
Referring to Sahu’s demand that she withdraw the police complaint, Arya said his statement made his intentions clear. “Sahu ji is saying that if I withdraw the complaint, all the allegations will end. But if I do not withdraw it, they will continue. This makes it clear what his intentions are,” she said.
Arya also rejected Sahu’s claim that an audio recording he shared along with his video had been generated using artificial intelligence.
Arya expressed confidence that the Uttarakhand Police would act on her complaint and ensure justice. She also thanked members of her party, Opposition leaders and the public for their support.
