Avenging his French Open defeat, Jannik Sinner (Italy) on Sunday won his maiden Wimbledon title dethroning his arch rival and Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) 4-6,6-4,6-4,6-4 at the Centre Court.
As the two tennis greats slugged it out to chase victory, Sinner got better of Alcaraz in the last few games to become the first Italian to win the Wimbledon title.
“To share this moment with my whole family here, it’s the most amazing thing that could have happened to me,” Sinner said after his victory over Alcaraz.
In May, Sinner lost one of the all-time great grand Slam finals at Rolland Garros against Alcaraz especially when he was leading by two sets and holding three championship points.
It was also the first time in many years that both the no 1 and no 2 seeds stormed into the final with the former beating the latter.
