Despite repeated warnings by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami against “thuk jihad”, a video of a Muslim man allegedly spitting on a tandoori roti in a restaurant went viral in Uttarakhand.

Scores of Hindu Activists affiliated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, and some political outfits closed businesses establishments in Uttarkashi town on Thursday and held demonstrations raising slogans against “thuk jihad.” They also demanded strict action against the “thuk jihadist”.

Traders later reopened their establishments in view of the Diwali festival. Some Muslim organizations have also condemned the alleged spitting on a tandoori roti and called it a shameful act.

The police and the district administration later convened a meeting of Hindu organizations and traders to discuss law and order in the city.

Last year too, there was a long dispute over construction of a mosque due to which a tense situation had occurred in the town for more than three months.

On the basis of a complaint, the police registered a case against the restaurant under sections 196(1) B and 274 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Chief Minister Dhami has warned repeatedly that the incidents like love, thuk and land jihads will not be tolerated in Uttarakhand.
