After Bill Clinton, Donald Trump on Sunday became the second sitting President to watch the US Open final as world No 2 Carlos Alcaraz dethroned top seed Jannik Sinner at Arthur Ash stadium in New York.

Loud boos can be heard as the President arrived and when shown on the Jumbotron during the National Anthem at the packed stadium with a capacity of 24000. Extra security for the President delayed start times for the US Open men’s final by at least half an hour.

Before Trump, Clinton had attended the women’s final becoming the first sitting U.S. president to watch the final in the year 2000. In that year, Clinton witnessed the first women’s singles title for Venus Williams, who defeated Lindsay Davenport to succeed her younger sister Serena as US Open champion.

Interestingly, both Clinton and Trump are big tennis fans. Trump had been a regular visitor at the US Open. Before Sunday, he was last seen in 2015 in the stadium when he was booed by spectators before his 2016 presidential campaign.
