Two suspected wildlife smugglers have been arrested in Udhamsingh Nagar district along with ivory worth Rs 1.5 crore in the international market.

STF sleuths and forest guards in a joint operation apprehended the two suspects who were traveling on a motorcycle on Monday night during a routine check in the Barakoli Range in Sitarganj region of the district.

The two alleged smugglers have been identified as Mrityunjay Haldar (32) and Manik Mandal (35), both residents of Sitarganj.

The estimated value of the ivory, weighing 7.8 kgs and measuring 3 feet 3 inches in length with a circumference of 13 inches, was approximately Rs 1.5 crore, said Ajai Singh, SSP STF.

A case has been registered against the duo under the Wildlife Protection Act
