After a series of disasters, the Uttarakhand government on Thursday said it has sought a package of Rs Rs 5702.15 crore to compensate the damage caused by the flash floods that wreaked havoc in the hill state during the monsoon season.
“The Disaster Management Department has requested the Government of India to provide special assistance of Rs 5702.15 crore to compensate for the damages caused during the monsoon this year and to prevent possible damage to infrastructure structures in future,” an official statement said.
A total of 79 people have died, 115 people injured and 90 people are missing in the year 2025 between 01 April 2025 to 31 August 2025 due to natural disaster, according to Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman.
On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, a memorandum was submitted to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India on Thursday seeking a package of Rs 5702.15 crore.
Top officials of the NDMA have assured the state government of cooperation at every level. Rajendra Singh member secretary NDMA said Uttarakhand faced horrific disasters like Dharali and Tharali in the monsoon season this year. “There is no doubt that the state has suffered extensive damage. In this hour of crisis, the Government of India stands with the state and that very possible financial support will be provided at the level of NDMA to mitigate the suffering of the affected people,” Singh said.
The NDMA officials also favoured finding long-term solutions to minimise the risk of disasters.
Giving details about the package, state secretary Disaster Management Suman said Public Works Department and Roads have suffered direct damage of approximately Rs 1163.84 crores, Irrigation Department’s assets have suffered approximately Rs. 266.65 crores, Energy Department has suffered Rs. 123.17 crores, Health Department’s assets have suffered approximately Rs. 4.57 crores, Education Department’s assets have suffered Rs. 68.28 crores, Higher Education Department’s assets have suffered Rs. 9.04 crores, Fisheries Department has suffered Rs. 2.55 crores, Rural Development Department has suffered Rs. 65.50 crores, Urban Development has suffered Rs. 04 crores, Animal Husbandry Department has suffered Rs. 23.06 crores and other departmental assets have suffered Rs. 213.46 crores and thus all the government departments have suffered direct damage of approximately Rs. 1944.15 crores.
Along with the above mentioned amount of Rs. 1944.15 crore for reconstruction and recovery of these assets, it has been requested to provide assistance of Rs. 3758.00 crore for saving the assets and stabilizing many such assets, roads, populated areas and other infrastructure structures which are on the verge of getting damaged due to the disaster. Thus, a total amount of Rs. 5702.15 crore has been demanded for the damage caused by the disaster in the year 2025, so that the assets damaged by the disaster can be repaired/recovered/reconstructed from this amount and work can be done for the protection of infrastructure structures/public assets/roads/populated areas etc. damaged due to the disaster and the impact of the disaster on Uttarakhand can be kept to a minimum and a huge loss can be avoided.
A total of 3953 small and big animals have died. A total of 238 concrete buildings have been destroyed, 02 kutcha buildings have been destroyed, 2835 concrete buildings have been seriously damaged and 402 kutcha buildings have been seriously damaged. Apart from this, a large number of commercial buildings, shops / hotels / homestays, restaurants and other structures have been damaged.
