The Uttarakhand government might be claiming that the water level in the temporary lake which was formed on Bhagirath river near Dharali in Uttarakhand has started receding. But the local people are claiming the danger is still not over.
“The sand has started appearing in the middle of the temporary lake formed in Dharali. This shows that the water level of the lake is now decreasing,” the government said in a statement on Sunday.
After the Aug 5 Dharali disaster, a temporary lake began forming on Bhagirathi river which was posing threat to low-lying areas.
The specialized teams of Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam (UJVN) and the state Irrigation Department aided by SDRF personnel started dredging to remove the excess water from the lake.
The personnel of SDRF are trying to remove all the trees and boulders which have posed hindrance in the flow of Bhagirathi.
Meanwhile, local people have alleged that the lake is still posing danger to Harshil town at downstream. They have asked the government to press heavy machines for the purpose dredging to open the lake completely. They told a newspaper that they are living in danger due to the formation of lake.
