A woman Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Ranipur police station in Haridwar district was arrested red-handed on Saturday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 to settle a dispute, the Vigilance Department said.

The department received a complaint through its toll-free helpline, 1064, alleging that the ASI Sonia had demanded ₹10,000 from the complainant in exchange for resolving a case in the complainant’s favour.

An inquiry found the complaint to be substantiated, following which the Superintendent of Police, Vigilance Sector, Dehradun, constituted a trap team and registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The team subsequently arrested ASI Sonia while she was allegedly accepting the ₹10,000 bribe from the complainant to broker a settlement in a financial dispute between the complainant and another party.

Further legal proceedings in the case are underway.
