A man on Monday was taken into custody by the police a day after his ferocious Rottweilers attacked and severely injured an elderly woman in Jakhan area of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.
Kaushlya Devi (75), a resident of Kishannagar, was attacked by two ferocious Rottweilers on Sunday morning when she was going to a temple located near the house as usual. On hearing the screams of the old lady, her neighbours came out and somehow rescued her from the clutches of the dogs. The woman was rushed to the hospital where her condition remains critical. She has already underwent multiple surgeries.
Acting on a complaint filed by Umang Nirwal, son of Devi who was admitted in a hospital after the attack by dogs, a case was registered against the canine owner Nafees (40) under Section 291 of the BNS.
During the investigations, it was found that Nafees had not taken any license from the Dehradun Municipal Corporation for keeping dangerous breed. SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh said that after this information came to light, Nafees was taken into custody by the police and is being questioned.
Locals alleged that the owner of the dogs did not come out of the house during the attack. They also claimed that the dogs have attacked people of the colony earlier also.
The SSP also said that strict action will be taken against those who keep dangerous dogs without a licence.
In view of the continuous complaints regarding people dying in the attack of dangerous dogs like rottweiler and pit bull, the Central Government has banned the import, breeding and purchase and sale of 23 dangerous foreign breed dogs including Rottweiler, Pit bull and American Bulldog.
Singh has requested the people that they can inform the Police Control Room No. 112 or the Municipal Corporation office about the presence of dangerous dogs in their neighbourhood.
