Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Dr Karan Singh called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Friday. Singh was accompanied by his son Vikramaditya Singh.
Vikramaditya Singh shared photographs of the meeting on social media, describing it as an honour to call on the Prime Minister in the presence of his father.
He said they had the opportunity to brief Modi on various cultural and religious initiatives being undertaken by their organisations and institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting assumes significance in the context of the continuing focus on Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural, religious and historical heritage. However, no details were immediately available about the specific initiatives discussed during the meeting.
Karan Singh, 95, served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from 1965 to 1967 and was the last Sadr-i-Riyasat of the erstwhile state. He has held several positions at the Centre and has remained associated with cultural, educational and religious institutions.
Vikramaditya Singh, who has also served as a minister in the Jammu and Kashmir government, has been involved in initiatives concerning the region’s heritage and cultural traditions.
The meeting between Modi and Karan Singh comes against the backdrop of the Union Territory’s continuing political and administrative transition following the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the erstwhile state in 2019.
