The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday successfully placed a next-generation US communication satellite, BlueBird Block-2, into Low Earth Orbit using its heaviest rocket, LVM3-M6, also known as ‘Bahubali’.
The Bengaluru-headquartered space agency said the LVM3-M6 rocket successfully placed the BlueBird Block-2 satellite into its intended orbit. The 43.5-metre-tall launch vehicle lifted off from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, at 8.55 am.T
BlueBird Block-2 is a spacecraft of the USA and the heaviest satellite ever launched from Indian soil into its intended orbit. “This marks a proud milestone in India’s space journey and is reflective of efforts towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said congratulating space scientists and engineers.
“With LVM3 demonstrating reliable heavy-lift performance, we are strengthening the foundations for future missions such as Gaganyaan, expanding commercial launch services and deepening global partnerships” Modi said in a message posted on X.
