Ajit Pawar killed in plane crash (updating with pic)

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others were killed after his plane crashed in Baramati on Wednesday morning. The reason for the crash was not immediately known.

Prime Minister Narenra Modi on X confirmed the death of Pawar and expressed his deep condolences.

All the five people including Pawar and pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak on board Learjet 45 aircraft were killed in the crash. Media reports said the plane caught fire after crash landing at the Baramati airstrip.

PM Modi spoke to Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadanvis on the plane crash. “Ajit Pawar Ji was a leader of the people, having a strong grassroots level connect. He was widely respected as a hardworking personality at the forefront of serving the people of Maharashtra. His understanding of administrative matters and passion for empowering the poor and downtrodden were also noteworthy. His untimely demise is very shocking and saddening. Condolences to his family and countless admirers. Om Shanti,” Modi said.

A three day state mourning has been declared in Maharashtra.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed his grief over the death of Pawar.
