In the biggest drug haul in Uttarakhand, police has arrested a woman near Sharda canal in Banbasa in Champawat district bordering Nepal and recovered 5.688 kg of MDMA drug from her.
The price of this drug in the international market is said to be Rs 10.23 crore. MDMA is commonly known as MD which is a synthetic psychoactive substance for drug use.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team headed by DSP Vandana Verma started chasing Isha (22), a resident of Pampapur in Banbasa, who was seen running towards Sharda canal with a black-coloured backpack. Noticing her behaviour suspicious, she was stopped and her bag was searched in which a total of 5.688 kg of MDMA drugs were recovered in two packets, Champawat Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Ganpati said.
After her arrest, a case was registered against Isha in Banbasa police station under section 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act.
During her interrogation, the woman told the police that she got the drug consignment from her husband Rahul Kumar and his associate Kunal Kohli on June 27. She further said her husband had told her to throw the drugs in Sharda canal on Saturday morning as the police had got the whiff of the consignment. The arrest came when she was about to throw the drugs in the Sharda canal.
Police said it has launched a manhunt to nab Rahul Kumar and Kohli, who are also wanted by the Mumbai police in different cases. The police is also suspecting a larger international network of drugs involving people from Nepal and Nigeria.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kumaon Region, Riddhim Agarwal has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 to the policemen who nabbed the woman.
