Pressure is mounting on Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after the main opposition Congress demanded immediate action against all the officials involved in the Haridwar land scam.
After the completion of investigations into the land purchase scam in Haridwar, the investigation report was recently submitted to the state government, official sources said. Media reports and sources claimed that the names of two IAS officers have also surfaced in the scam involving the purchase of a piece of land for Rs 54 crore on commercial rate when its actual value was only Rs 15 crore as per the prevailing circle rates of agriculture land. The Haridwar Nagar Nigam officials changed the land use to make the land commercial and purchased it on higher rates, the reports said.
However, no action has been taken against the people including IAS officers found guilty till now, said Suryakant Dhasmana, vice president of the state Congress. “This is in itself a unique example of corruption in the system and protection of corruption in the state. The fact that the government has not taken any action against the guilty officials till now shows that somewhere the officials involved in corruption have got the protection of powerful people,” Dhasmana said.
Dhasmana further alleged that the speed shown by Haridwar Nagar Nigam in converting the land use, entering into a contract and then purchasing it is “amazing”. All these processes were completed in less than two months between October 2024 and November 2024 and no transparency was maintained in the entire process, he said.
“This has been revealed in the investigation. And despite the investigation report revealing which officers are involved in this entire matter, no action has been taken yet,” Dhasmana said.
In this regard, the Congress Party asked the Dhami government to take action immediately. “If there is a delay in taking action, then the Congress will hold protest demonstration,” he added.
