CM urged to inspect highly polluted Rispana, Bindal rivers

Concerned citizens of Dehradun on Tuesday urged Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to inspect the highly polluted Rispana and Bindal rivers after he made a surprise inspection at ISBT in the city.

During the inspection in the presence of top officials, the Chief Minister expressed strong displeasure at the waste littered around several places. He warned that any negligence in cleanliness at important public places like the ISBT would not be tolerated.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister personally cleaned the premises with a broom, conveying to officials that the cleanliness drive should be visible on the ground, not just on paper.

But after the inspections, some concerned Doonites said the Chief Minister should also inspect the highly polluted Rispana and Bindal rivers in Dehradun also. “We would like our Chief Minister Dhami to see the bad condition of Rispana and Bindal rivers,” said Vinod Sharma, who resides near Rispana river. Sharma also lauded the CM for inspecting the ISBT.

Social activist Anil Jaggi also said the government must take steps to clean the two dying rivers.

  1. Cleanliness should be part of daily activity. We want smart city, but are groomed to maintain smart city. Every citizen has responsibility to keep clean his surroundings. CM Dhami has shown a good gesture by taking broom in his own hands. Government has provided enough facilities for collected garbage from door to door. We should use those facilities.
A new problem cropping up is littering by dogs on open roads. I have been to Colombia, where I witnessed every pet owner keeps a poop collector in his hand while roaming with their pet dogs on the street. Littering of dogs in public places is a crime in Colombia. We should follow such examples in our country also.
Only responsible citizens deserve smart cities and facilities attached to it.
