The Nainital Police have nabbed two more alleged members of the gang involved in the armed robbery at Gorapadaw in Haldwani on August 19, taking the total number of arrests in the case to eight.
The latest arrests were made on Thursday, August 27, from behind the Haldwani-Pantnagar airport on the basis of technical surveillance and manual intelligence, police said.
The accused have been identified as Sahab Singh alias Sabi (27) of Gajipur village in Rampur district, Uttar Pradesh, and Gurwant Singh alias Gopi (26) of Noorpur village in Rampur.
According to police, the complainant Narayan Das had alleged that around 10 armed men had allegedly stormed his office-cum-garage behind a showroom in Gorapadaw on August 19 and looted around ₹8 lakh in cash, 12 mobile phones and gold jewellery from there.
Following the robbery, Nainital SSP Dr Manjunath T C formed a special team of around 50 police personnel, including SOG, cyber and crime teams, besides forensic and dog squads, to crack the case.
Police said the two latest arrests led to the recovery of ₹1.40 lakh in allegedly looted cash, two country-made .315-bore pistols, four live cartridges and a Verna car allegedly used in the crime.
Of the recovered cash, ₹89,700 was seized from Sahab Singh along with the car, while ₹50,300 was recovered from Gurwant Singh.
Police said both suspects admitted their involvement during interrogation. Six other accused—Yash Sidana, Vanshpreet Singh alias Pannu, Rakhveer Singh, Amandeep Singh, Shivraj Singh and Afzal Malik—had earlier been arrested.
Police have added charges under Section 317(2) of the BNS and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act based on the latest recoveries. Sahab Singh also has several previous criminal cases registered against him, including cases involving the Arms Act.
