Heatwave remains unabated in large parts of India, temp rises to 40.6 in Doon

Severe heatwave on Wednesday remained unabated with the highest maximum temperature of 48.2°C was being reported from Banda in Uttar Pradesh.

Dehradun was the hottest place in Uttarakhand with the maximum temperature crossing 40 mark to touch 40.6 for the first time this summer season. The temperature was five degree above normal in the capital city.

Sever heatwave likely to continue at isolated places over Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun districts and adjoining areas of Uttarkashi district, met department said on Wednesday.

However, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) likely over Jammu-Kashmir during 20th – 22nd; Himachal Pradesh on 21st & 23rd; Uttarakhand on 22nd & 23rd May.

“Very light to light rain / thunderstorm likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand. Dry weather likely to prevail in remaining districts of Uttarakhand,” met department said.

Meanwhile, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions prevailed in isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh; heat wave conditions in few pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh; in isolated pockets over Jammu Division, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.
