Jaiswal scores century as India beats South Africa by 9 wickets to win ODI series 2-1

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a majestic century as India on Saturday hammered South Africa by nine wickets in the decider of the three match ODI series in Visakhpatnam to win the series by 2-1.

Chasing a target of 271, India lost only Rohit Sharma, who also played a splendid knock of 75 runs (3X6s, 7X4s). Sharma and opener Jaiswal contributed 155 runs through their opening stand. Later, Virat Kohli, who is in great form, also made a quick-fire 65 runs (3X6s, 4X4s) to help India to successfully chase 271 runs target without losing any further wicket. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 116 (2x6s, 12x4s).

Earlier, South Africa set a handsome target of 271 runs for India with Q de Kock making a brilliant century (106 runs). Captain T Bavuma also scored 48 runs.

However, Jaiswal aided by Rohit and Kohli easily reached the target when 61 balls were still left.

But both the test and ODI series have exposed chinks in the Indian bowling attack. In all the three ODIs, Proteas scored more than 300 runs twice and more than 250 once. This means that the Indian bowling attack was very effective.

Barring Kuldip Yadav (Jasprit Bumrah not playing), the Indian bowling attack has struggled to meet expectations especially in the first two ODIs in Ranchi and Raipur where South Africans were able to come close to huge targets like 350.

India now desperately needs at least two new pacers who have the ability to take 2-3 wickets in regular intervals.
