A Haridwar-based journalist was arrested for allegedly blackmailing and taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from an official of the Roorkee Municipal Corporation on Wednesday.
On a complaint filed at Kotwali Roorkee by Rajiv Bhatnagar, a clerk at the Municipal Corporation Roorkee, that journalist Vikas Kumar Khare had demanded Rs 20 lakh in exchange for a video of the complainant made in a confidential manner at the Municipal Corporation office, the police registered a case under section 308(2)/308(3) BNS at the Kotwali Police Station Roorkee.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Haridwar Pramendra Dobhal immediately constituted a police team to nab the accused, police said.
The police team reached the place mentioned by the journalist at Core Underpass along with the complainant Bhatnagar but the accused changed his location as no one was found. The complainant again made a WhatsApp call and the journalist invited him at Shantarshah Underpass.
On reaching the next point, the complainant offered a bribe of Rs. 50,000 as first instalment. After receiving Rs 50,000 from Bhatnagar, Khare was arrested. Police is also investigating the case further.
