A leopard which was declared man-eater in Gajeld area of Pauri district in Uttarakhand has been shot dead, an official statement said on Wednesday.

Giving details, the statement said a team of hunters way laid the leopard and shot dead the beast from a close range.

A team of senior officials had travelled to Pauri on Monday, following the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in view of the leopard attacks in some areas.

Recently, bear, tiger, and leopard attacks in various areas of Pauri district have claimed several lives and injured many others. Taking the escalating human-wildlife conflict seriously, the Chief Minister directed officials to visit the area and take necessary action.

In compliance, State Principal Forest Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu and other senior officials visited Gajeld village in Pauri where a leopard attacked and killed Rajendra Nautiyal (45) on Dec 4.
