Man held for murdering live-in partner

The Uttarakhand police have arrested a man from Haryana in connection with murder of his live-in partner whose body was recovered from a hotel in Rudraprayag area in the Garhwal region, police sources said on Friday.

After finding the body of a woman, the police immediately sealed the hotel room and initiated the process of collecting evidence with the assistance of a forensic teams. Preliminary investigations revealed that the young woman identified as Kajal (30) had stayed at Galaxy hotel on the night of March 6, 2026, along with her live-in partner and one more friend.

On March 7, the woman’s live-in partner and his friend left the hotel, stating that they would return shortly. However, when they failed to return, the hotel management grew suspicious and alerted the police.

The Police investigations revealed that Kajal and the two young men accompanying her were residents of Haryana. The police established contact with the woman’s family members and dispatched teams to search for the two suspects. On March 8, 2026, the deceased’s family members arrived in Rudraprayag, where the body was identified at the District Hospital as that of Kajal (30) , a resident of Pipli, District Kurukshetra, Haryana.

Subsequently, based on a written complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, a case of murder was registered against Arun and Akshay at the Rudraprayag police station. Police teams launched a search for the two accused using a combination of CCTV footage, electronic surveillance, and traditional policing methods. Following sustained efforts, the police team successfully arrested both the accused on the evening of March 10, 2026, in the Cheeka police station area (Patiala Road) of Haryana, and brought them to Rudraprayag.

During police interrogation, the prime accused, Arun Kumar, disclosed that he was in live in relationship with Kajal for the past four years, a fact known to both their families. On March 4, 2026, he set out on a trip with Kajal and his friend, Akshay. Traveling via Ambala and Haridwar, they reached Rudraprayag on March 6 and checked into the Galaxy Hotel.

They informed the police that on the morning of March 7, an argument broke out between Kajal and Arun over some issues, which gradually escalated into a physical assaults. Arun held the feet of Kajal while Akshay strangulated her with a dupatta. After committing the murder, both accused locked the room and fled away.
