After wreaking havoc, the monsoon has completely withdrawn from Uttarakhand but not before causing enormous damage during the season that virtually brought back the horrific memories of the 2013 deluge.

“The monsoon has completely withdrawn from Uttarakhand on Friday,” said Met Director C S Tomar. According to official reports, a total of 136 people were killed, 149 injured and 89 went missing in the monsoon-related incidents that include a series of major disasters in Dharali, Tharali, Syanachatti, Dehradun and other places with the Garhwal region bearing the brunt.

Nearly 6193 houses were partially damaged, 320 severely damaged and 333 fully damaged in the flash floods and landslides.

Uttarakhand recorded 1412 mm of rainfall this season which was 22 percent more than the normal. Bageshwar district received maximum rainfall amounting to 2683.2 mm which was 242 percent more than the normal.

Uttarakashi where a series of disasters like Dharali and Syanachatti occurred, received 1315.8 MM rainfall which was 15 percent more than the normal.

The capital Dehradun which witnessed unprecedented flash floods on Sept 15 night and the next early morning that left more than 32 dead recorded 1971.9 MM rainfall which was also 38 percent more than the normal.

Pauri district was however in a deficient zone as it witnessed 30 percent less rainfall this season.

In the 2013 deluge of June 16 and 17, more than 5000 people, mostly Kedarnath pilgrims, were killed in just two days.
