Newly appointed Uttarakhand Congress President Ganesh Godiyal on Wednesday affirmed his commitment to work for the party’s victory in the 2027 assembly election.

“My appointment has been made to facilitate Congress party’s victory in the 2027 assembly elections,” Godiyal told newspersons, a day after the party high command appointed him in place of Karan Mahara, a Thakur leader, who was made special invitee to the Congress Working committee (CWC).

Significantly, Godiyal made it clear that the party was united to defeat BJP in the assembly election for the betterment of the hill state. “We have to fight against corruption. For this purpose, we are all united to defeat BJP in 2027,” Godiyal said. Godiyal made it clear that there were no differences in the party now and all leaders are united.

The party sources said Rawat was not happy with Mahara and had been seeking appointment of a Brahmin leader in his place. Rawat had recently closed ranks with former party chief Pritam Singh, who was made the chairman of campaign committee. Former Cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat was also compensated as Chairman of election management committee. Both Pritam Singh and Harak Singh Rawat have been asked by the high command to work closely for the 2027 assembly elections, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Harish Rawat welcomed the appointment of Godiyal and said the move came after a long churning. “The new appointment is like a nectar after a great churning in the party. This nectar should be equally distributed among the party workers so that they get new energy and score victory in the election,” Rawat said.

Congress leader Suryakant Dhasmana also said that the party would gain more strength under the leadership of Godiyal. “Godiyal is a charismatic leader who has been working tirelessly for the betterment of Congress in the state. I am sure that he would lead us to victory in 2027,” Dhasmana said.
