Sabalenka to meet Rybakina in Australian Open final

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) and no 5 Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) will meet again for the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup 🏆 on Saturday. The Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup is the trophy awarded to the winner of the Australian Open women’s singles draw since 1934, named after former Australian tennis player Daphne Akhurst and donated by the New South Wales Tennis Association.

In the first semi-final at Melbourne Park, Sabalenka outplayed 12th seed Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) 6-2,6-3 in straight sets. In the second semi-final, Rybakina defeated sixth seed Jessica Pegula (US) also in straight sets 6-3,7-6. This is the first time after 22 years that both the players reached the final without dropping a set. In the previous occasion, Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin had reached the Australian Open final without dropping a single set in 2004.

The final will be played at 2 PM (IST) on Saturday.
