The gang had allegedly decamped with a booty of Rs 8 lakh in cash, 12 mobile phones and gold jewellery after barging into the premises with firearms.
The breakthrough came after police scrutinised CCTV footage, analysed surveillance inputs and recorded statements of the complainant and witnesses. Yash Sidana (24) was arrested from Haldwani, while Amandeep Singh (21) and Shivraj Singh (21) were apprehended from the DND Flyover-Jaitpur Mor area of New Delhi. Earlier Vanshpreet Singh alias Pannu and Rakhveer Singh were arrested on August 21. Their interrogation, coupled with technical surveillance and field investigation, helped police identify and track the four other suspects.
According to police, the robbery was reported on August 19 after complainant Narayan Das alleged that around 10 armed men entered his office-cum-garage behind the KIY showroom in Gorapadaw and fled with cash, mobile phones and jewellery.
Police have recovered two vehicles, three country-made pistols, live ammunition and Rs 18,000 in cash from the accused. The vehicles, a Creta and a Scorpio, are suspected to have been used during the crime. Sections 317(2) of the BNS and 3/25 of the Arms Act have also been added to the case.
Nainital SSP Dr Manjunath T.C. had constituted a 50-member special team comprising SOG personnel, crime specialists and other police officials soon after the robbery. He also personally inspected the crime scene and directed teams to conduct raids in other states to track down the suspects.
