Bollywood has lost two former actresses — Sulakshana Pandit and Zarine Khan in less than 24 hours.
On November 6, veteran actress and playback singer Sulakshana Pandit passed away at the age of 71 following a cardiac arrest. The beloved artist was being rushed to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital when she breathed her last. Known for her enchanting voice and screen presence during the 1970s and early 1980s, Sulakshana’s life was a blend of cinematic glory and personal sorrow. Despite a flourishing career and admiration from audiences, she never married—her heart forever tied to an unfulfilled love story with legendary actor Sanjeev Kumar. Sulakshana Pandit belonged to the Mewati Gharana. She was the elder sister of the music director duo Jatin-Lalit and former actress Vijayta Pandit.
Lest we forget, she was a good singer also with songs like Beqarar Dil Tu Gayeja from the movie Door KA Rahi to her credit.
Veteran actor Sanjay Khan’s wife and Sussanne and Zayed Khan’s mother, Zarine Khan, has passed away at the age of 81 due to age-related ailments. She breathed her last at her Mumbai residence. Zarine is survived by her husband, Sanjay Khan, and their four children — Sussanne Khan, Simone Arora, Farah Ali Khan, and Zayed Khan.
It was widely alleged that Zarine was also present in a five-star hotel in Mumbai when her husband Sanjay thrashed Zeenat Aman damaging her eye.
Before marrying Sanjay Khan in 1966, Zarine had a brief stint in Bollywood, appearing in films such as Tere Ghar Ke Saamne and Ek Phool Do Mali. She later established herself as a renowned interior designer, a passion that her daughter Sussanne Khan went on to embrace as well.
