Tourists have been barred from taking bath at Tiger Waterfall in Chakrata area in Uttarakhand after two persons including a woman from Delhi were killed when a tree fell on them, officials said on Tuesday.
“We are trying to find whether there is any weak tree at the top of the waterfall which can also fall. As a precautionary step, tourists are not being allowed to take bath in the waterfall. This may take 1-3 days before it would be finally reopened,” said an official.
A big tree fell on Alka Anand (55) of Delhi and Geet Ram Joshi (38) of Chakrata on Monday evening when they were taking bath there. The two injured tourists were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead. This is the first such incident at Tiger waterfall in Chakrata.
“When the tree fell, nearly a dozen people were taking bath in separate groups. However, others escaped unhurt,” said a police official.
Significantly, nearly 80-90 children had taken bath at the same place just 10-20 minutes before the tree fell.
