Powered by beautiful locales and peaceful environment, Uttarakhand has remained a top destination for the Bollywood filmmakers since ages. Nainital, Mussoorie, Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar and many other places in the hill state provide stunning backdrops for many hit movies.
In the recent past, flicks like Vicky Vidya Ka Wo Wala Video, Tikdam, Do Patti, Putul, Rautu Ka Raaj, Tanvi the Great, Past Tense, Kesari 2 and Mere Husband Ki Biwi were shot in the hill state. The regional film industry has also witnessed a boom.
Bollywood star Sunny Deol and film director Anurag Singh are busy on the set of Border 2 at Halduwala in Dehradun these days.
Banshidhar Tiwari, Chief Executive Officer of Uttarakhand Film Development Council (UFDC), on Tuesday met Sunny Deol and director Singh on the set of Border 2. Joint CEO of the Council, Dr. Nitin Upadhyay was also present.
Tiwari dwelt in length on the state’s film policy where filmmakers get timely shooting permission, administrative support and easy availability of local resources.
Tiwari said through the film policy the state government tries to provide positive and comfortable environment for the film units. Sunny Deol showed keen interest.
Border 2 is being made in the production of JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta and T-Series, whose shooting is going on in Dehradun since February. Kesari fame Anurag Singh is its director and it includes lead actors like Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.
The film is based on the Indo-Pak war of 1971. A grand set depicting a Kashmir village has been built in Halduwala. The set construction started in November last year. The film includes scenes like war scenes, movement of tanks and army. The art director of the film is Mayur Sharma and the responsibility of action direction is being done by Ravi Verma, who has previously been appreciated for his work in films like Jat. About 350 local people are getting work daily from this project.
Besides, Border 2, shooting of many major films are going on in Uttarakhand these days. The shooting of Tanu Weds Manu fame producer Vinod Bachchan’s film Ginny Weds Sunny 2 is going on in Dehradun, in which Avinash Tiwari and 12th Fail fame actress Medha Shankar are in the lead roles.
At the same time, the shooting of comedy satire ‘Uttar Da Puttar’ starring Annu Kapoor, Pawan Malhotra and Bijendra Kala is going on in Dehradun and Rishikesh.
As part of promoting Uttarakhandi cinema, these days three films in Garhwali language—Marcha, Teri Maya and Namak—are being shot in Dehradun, Tehri and Uttarkashi respectively.
