A video has gone viral after two young men who were posing as Arab Sheikhs were spotted at Har Ki Pauri, the main Ganga ghat in the holy city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
Naveen Kumar and Prince (both 22) were later detained and released after the police found that that they were Hindus and making reel for their YouTube channel.
Interestingly, the incident occurred days after media reports that the state government was mulling the scope of expanding Kumbh area in Haridwar and Rishikesh to ban the entry of non-Hindus. At present, the entry of non-Hindus is banned at Har-Ki-Pauri and some nearby areas.
According to the police, the duo also apologized for hurting the religious sentiments with their actions. The police said that they were warned against making such videos in the future and were released after being issued a challan under the Police Act.
Earlier, amidst demands to ban the entry of non-Hindus to all Ganga ghats in the Haridwar Kumbh Mela area, the presence of these young men wearing kanduras at Har Ki Pauri created ripples in the area.
The priests said that when they stopped the young men roaming in kanduras and questioned them, they identified themselves as Habibullah and Habibi, residents of Dubai. When pressed further, they claimed to be social media influencers and said they were making a video for YouTube.
When the priests asked them to leave, they said that “they can roam anywhere in India.”
Following this, the priests informed their organization, the Ganga Sabha, which then informed the police. However, the young men disappeared before the Ganga Sabha officials and the police arrived. Later, the police began a search operation and detained the duo from a nearby area.
