The world community including the US President Donald Trump is largely silent, albeit diplomatically, on the incarceration of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan even as all sorts of rumours continued to swell about his uncertain fate in Adiala jail.
Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is also silent whether some independent observers should be sent to meet him inside the jail to put an end to the rumour mill and give an authoritative account of the factual position.
Khan’s three sisters, joined by party leaders and workers, have been staging protests outside Adiala Jail after being denied permission to meet him.
According to some Pakistan media reports, the Adiala jail administration has rejected rumours suggesting that Imran Khan had been shifted out of the facility. An official also said the Pakistan tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) founder is in a healthy state and that he remains incarcerated at the Adiala jail. Pakistan minister Khawaja Asif further said Imran Khan’s menu in jail comprised better food than those served at five-star hotels.
Few months ago, in their first public interview, the sons of Imran Khan had appealed to President Trump and the international community to help secure their father’s release from prison. But nothing was heard from Trump on the issue.
Khan, who has been behind bars since August 2023, faces a slew of legal cases, including a conviction in a £190 million corruption case and several charges under Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Act.
As PTI continues to press for Khan’s release through legal and political channels, there was a confusion about the health of Khan.
