A woman has been arrested after she pushed her 4-year-old stepson to death at Doiwala area in Dehradun in Uttarakhand, police said on Monday.
A case of culpable homicide was registered against the woman identified as Priya after the child’s father filed a complaint in Doliwala police station against her.
Giving details, police said Rahul Kumar, a resident of village Bullawala falling under Doiwala police station submitted a complaint stating that his wife Priya pushed her stepson Vivaan following which he received serious injuries and died on way to hospital.
Kumar told the police that he had a son, Vivaan, age 4, from his first wife. After the death of the first wife, Kumar tied the knot with Priya. Kumar said his second wife Priya’s behaviour with his son was very cruel and she used to beat him on small matters.
On the basis of Kumar’s application, an FIR No. 283/2025 under Section 105 BNS was registered at Doiwala Police Station.
In view of the sensitivity of the incident, the Senior Superintendent of Police, (SSP) Dehradun, Ajai Singh directed Doiwala police officials to move swiftly in the case. Following this, the police team gathered information regarding the incident from Kumar’s neighbors. Based on the information collected from the area, Priya was detained for necessary questioning.
Upon rigorous questioning, she confessed to having pushed her four-year-old stepson, Vivaan, to the floor in anger, causing him to suffer serious injuries. The child died while being taken to the hospital. Following this, the police team arrested the accused, Priya, from the scene of interrogation on November 2, 2025.
