In a shocking incident, seven members of a family allegedly committed suicide apparently under the financial burden in Panchkula area of Haryana on Monday night.
The grisly incident occurred when all the family members of Pravin Mittal (42), who used to run and a shop and an NGO, entered into a suicide pact and consumed some poisonous substance. While six people died instantly, one was declared dead in a hospital, police said. The family members who committed suicide include Mittal, his wife, parents, two daughters and a son.
Preliminary investigations said family had resided in a rented accommodation at Kaulagarh area in Dehradun for an unspecified period before shifting to Panchkula a year ago, top police officials said. “Basically, the family belongs to Chandigarh area,” said Ajai Singh, SSP Dehradun. However, the adhar card address of the family is shown to be Dehradun.
“On enquiring about the said family, it came to light that the family of the deceased Mittal son of Deshraj Mittal used to live on rent in Kolagarh Dehradun till about 8-9 months ago, who originally belonged to Chandigarh region. Currently, the said family was not residing in Dehradun,” the SSP said.
The vehicle with Uttarakhand registration no found near the Panchkula home is registered in the name of Gambhir Singh Negi of Maldevta area in Dehradun. On contacting Negi told the police that he had met the deceased Praveen Mittal in connection with NGO work. The deceased used to run an NGO named Child Life Care Mission earlier. During this time, due to friendship, Gambhir Negi got the said vehicle financed in his name, which was currently being driven by the deceased.
