Reena Chauhan was a divorcee when she first met Mamun Hasan (28) of Bangladesh through Facebook in 2019.
Soon, the social media friendship blossomed into romantic relationship when Hasan came on a tourist visa to meet Chauhan in Dehradun.
After spending two months in Dehradun with Chauhan, Hasan went back to Bangladesh but came back twice during the covid period.
In 2022, Hasan illegally took Chauhan to Bangladesh where they entered into wedlock. But within 2-3 months, the couple returned to Dehradun this time both illegally and started living together at different locations where Hasan hid his Bangladeshi past to become Sachin Chauhan.
In the past few months, the couple was living in the posh Alaknanda Enclave near Jogiwala in Dehradun where the police arrested them.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh told reporters that Chauhan had helped Hasan to obtain the fake Aadhaar card, PAN card, and other identity cards. Hasan was working as a bouncer in a club Dehradun using the false identity.
“Reena is a resident of Tyuni area of Dehradun district and came in contact with Hasan through Facebook”, Singh said.
The police received information about a suspicious man and a woman in Alaknanda Enclave following which both were detained and interrogated. During the interrogation, the man revealed his real name as Mamun Hasan, a resident of Meherpur district in Bangladesh.
Upon rigorous interrogation, Hasan’s wife Chauhan revealed that she was currently living with husband on rent in Alaknanda Enclave and that he had obtained the fake Indian citizenship certificates in the name of her former husband, Sachin Chauhan.
A case was registered against Hasan and Reena under different sections of the BNS for conspiring to obtain fake identity cards and illegally residing in India.
All the fake certificates, identity cards, and other important documents have been recovered from the possession of both the accused.
The SSP said all those who assisted the accused in obtaining the fake identity cards are being traced, and a strict action will be taken against them.
