China’s overwhelming dominance at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan reached another landmark on Saturday, with its gold-medal tally crossing three-digit mark and leaving the rest of Asia far behind.
China has so far collected 107 gold, 41 silver and 28 bronze medals, taking its overall haul to 176 medals. Host Japan is second with 31 gold and 129 medals overall, while South Korea is third with 16 gold medals.
The scale of China’s lead is striking. Its 107 gold medals are more than three times Japan’s tally and nearly 27 times India’s four golds. China also has 76 more gold medals than Japan, underlining the extraordinary gap between the top two nations.
China’s gold rush has been spread across both traditional strongholds and emerging areas. Diving, gymnastics, table tennis, badminton, shooting and weightlifting remain the backbone of its medal campaign, while swimming and athletics have added to the haul. The breadth of China’s success — rather than dependence on any single discipline — helps explain the enormous gap between it and the rest of Asia.
Japan, with 31 gold and 129 medals overall, remains comfortably in second place, while South Korea has 16 golds. Iran is seventh with seven gold medals.
India presents a contrasting picture. The country has won 30 medals — four gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze. The two kabaddi golds won on Saturday have moved India to tenth place in the medal tally.
India’s four gold medals therefore leave it well behind the leading Asian sporting powers despite its sizeable overall medal haul. With the Games continuing until October 4, the medal table remains fluid, but China’s huge lead has already emerged as one of the defining features of the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
